The French police have detained and taken into custody two Russian and two Ukrainian fans in Lille, the police prefecture of the northern French city said on Wednesday.
Russia is playing its next round-robin match against Slovakia on Wednesday at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille. Team England is scheduled to face Wales on Thursday at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens. The venues of both matches are located only 40 kilometers (25 miles) apart from each other.
Police said the Ukrainians were also detained for carrying weapons.
The officers said last night in the city was calm and by 11 p.m. the fans were not spotted in the streets.
