One hostage was killed and the two hostage takers “neutralised” in an attack at a church in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in France’s Normandy region, French police said.
Two men armed with knives took several people hostage in a church in Normandy. Between four and six people including a priest were believed to have been held.
Several media outlets have reported that the police intervened rapidly, killing the two hostage takers.
France Info says one of the hostages has been killed. Le Figaro reported the Normandy church attackers slit the throat of the priest, who subsequently died.
The French interior ministry is quoted as saying the police operation is over. The Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve is on his way to the scene.

The correspondent of the RTL Frederic Veille reports that between four and six people were being held in a church of Saint Etienne du Rouvray in the northern Normandy region.
Police and troops arrived at the scene. According to local media, two men have kidnapped the priest, two nuns and several worshipers.
The reasons behind the attack is not clear yet. RTL correspondent reported from the scene via Twitter “many shots heard” and “several injured”.
