The fighter jet that crashed in Syria violated the Turkish air space and was downed by Turkey’s air force, CNN reported on Tuesday quoting military sources. A fighter jet has crashed in Syria on the border with Turkey on Tuesday, the NTV channel showed a footage from the crash site.
NTV has aired video footage from the crash site in the area of Kyzyldag mountains about five kilometers away from the Turkish border. The area is populated by Syria’s ethnic Turkmens. Clashes between the opposition and Syria’s government troops are underway in the area. The video shows the plane caught fire, developed a nose dive and flew into one of the hills.
Two pilots of the combat plane managed to eject themselves.
The plane has not been identified. Turkish media and officials earlier said that a major operation had been underway in the area populated by ethnic Turkmens. Government troops were trying to regain control over the territory. The military on the ground have heavy support from the air. Some of the strikes are delivered by Russian planes.
