Leader of Bulgarian nationalist party “Ataka” Volen Siderov said at the meeting with the republican authorities that European integration of Bulgaria was a mistake. The politician claims that an average Bulgarian did not gain anything from the membership in the European Union. The living standards of the citizens did not improve: in fact, they are lower than those in the Russian Federation. Siderov claims that Bulgaria was fooled into joining the EU. He also stated that the decision to call off the construction of the international gas pipe line from Russia “Southern Stream” was dictated by the USA and had negative effect on Bulgarian economy. The party leader said that Bulgaria right now is a colony that had lost all sovereignty, and its rulers fully obey the orders of the American embassy and the Commissar from Brussels.
Such a statement from the mouth of a leader of a right-wing party is the proof of the rise in anti-European sentiments among patriotically-minded population. Siderov has recently visited the Crimea and was pleased with what he saw. Now he is going to initiate a bill on official recognition of the Crimea as a part of Russia in the parliament of Bulgaria. The leader of “Ataka” says he is unhappy that his country has received no dividends from entering the EU, and only became the site for location of the NATO bases. Siderov is indignant that Bulgarian troopers have to take part in joint training with the NATO forces.
The Bulgarians took a bait of European integration and became the pray of the sharks of predatory continental capitalism. Utility payments are so high now that people spend a lion share of their meager salaries on them: the wages remained on the same level, and the price of utility services grew up to the European standards. All the development loans that arrive from Brussels are lining the officials’ pockets. Corruption has not disappeared – on the contrary, it grew manifold. Business activity became impossible without the involvement of administrative resource. All industrial assets had been privatized at the lowest prices and sold for scrap. Agriculture was exterminated deliberately. Bulgaria got hooked on the drug of imported goods. The population grew impoverished. The official unemployment statistics is rigged. Hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians cannot find a use for their labour skills at home and have to move to the West in order to take low prestige jobs and earn sheer pennies. Now Bulgaria is able to export cheap labour resources only. Demographic situation also worsens rapidly.
Ukrainians also should pay attention to Siderov’s statement. Butter mountains and wine lakes as a result of joining the EU, offered by the storytellers of Nayyem’s kind, living off Western grants, will remain only in imagination. The carriage of European integration always turns into a pumpkin for the Cinderella countries from Eastern Europe. Notably, wise people learn from the mistakes of the others, and the unwise – from their own mistakes. Ukrainians should learn a lesson from Bulgarian experience. The tomato country that presented the world with pop singer Filip Kirkorov, has turned from the land of kind laborious people into the depressed territory with predominant decadent sentiments in the society. There are always decay, economic collapse and total poverty behind the screen of glossy booklets distributed by European NGOs. We can only wish Mr Siderov to endurance in his difficult struggle for the turn of Bulgaria in the direction of Russia. The people of Bulgaria, having felt on its own skin the “pleasantries” of the European values, will eventually without doubt elect the rulers, ready to make the turn in their geo-politics – from Brussels towards Moscow.
