Bravo Ingrid Deltenre In Her Decision To Announce Sanctions Against The Ukraine Junta And Exclusion From The Eurovision Song Contest !

If no solution is reached in the next few weeks, the top TV woman in Europe, Ingrid Deltenre, who was also director of Swiss television from 2004 to 2009, is already announcing sanctions against Ukraine: a temporary exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest.The European Broadcasting Union considers the possibility to suspend Ukraine from participation in “Eurovision-2017”, if the situation with the participation of Russia in the competition will not be resolved until the end of next week. This was stated by the head of the EBU, Ingrid Deltenre in an interview with the Swiss publication.

Deltentre reported that at the moment, she is in talks with Coup Leaders Groisman and Poroshenko to find “a peaceful solution”.

According to her, “only they can lift the ban on Yulia Samoilova to enter Ukraine.”

In her home country Russia, she is a superstar, in the Ukraine a persona non grata, unwanted: Julia Samoilava (27) has been forbidden to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 (ESC) in mid-May in Kiev. The Ukrainian intelligence agency SBU gave it a three-year entry ban on Wednesday. Reason: Julia Samoilava, who has been sitting in a wheelchair since childhood because of a muscular disease, joined the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia, Since the government in Kiev does not recognize the annexation, she considers Juliet’s appearance at the ESC as a violation of the border.

“This behavior of Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable,” says Ingrid Deltenre (56) at SonntagsBlick. The Director of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva is  currently negotiating with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Hrojsman (39) and President Petro Poroshenko (51) to find a “satisfactory solution”. Only these two could cancel the entry ban for Julia. Or make sure that it comes into force only after Julia’s appearance at the ESC.

ESC victims of political feats

A third possibility would be that the fragile singer would be broadcast live from her home via satellite for the presentation of her song “Flame is Burning”. Russian television, on the other hand, defends itself. There has never been a live connection in the 60-year history of the ESC. It would be contrary to the statutes of the competition. This means that all participants must perform directly and live on the ESC stage. And Ukrainian television is also reluctant: “The transmission of Samoilava’s appearance by Ukrainian television stations is also a violation of Ukrainian laws, as well as the entry into Ukraine”.

The entry ban for the competition, “it is a blow to the image of the Eurovision Song Contest,” criticizes Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. In Kiev, on the other hand, it is assumed that Russia has deliberately nominated the physically disabled singer for the ESC to force the Ukraine to make a decision in the Crimean question or to make it stand up against the eyes of the world as a hostile opponent.

“I deeply regret the fact that the ESC is being abused for political action,” says Ingrid Deltenre. “The Eurovison Song Contest is supposed to delight and bring together millions of people; it must not be used to incite them against each other.”

The Director General of the European Broadcasting Union, Ingrid Deltenre has given her first public comments on the banning of Yulia Samoilova from Ukraine.

Ingrid Deltenre the Director General of the European Broadcasting Union has spoken to the Swiss Newspaper, Blick about the situation surrounding Ukraine’s decision to ban Yulia Samoilova from entering the country. Yulia Samoilova was banned a week ago from entering Ukraine for a period of three years by the Ukrainian Security Services. Yulia was found to have entered Crimea by a non-Ukrainian border post, breaching Ukrainian law.

Mrs Deltenre told Blick that:

This behavior of Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable.

Mrs Deltenre in her role as the Director General of the EBU is in discussions with both the President and Prime Minister of Ukraine to try and reach a “satisfactory situation”. It has been suggested by the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest that the EBU will push for the ban to only come into effect after the Eurovision Song Contest to ensure that Yulia can still compete in person in Kyiv.

The Director General added her voice to a number of other EBU officials and members of national broadcasters in expressing her disappointment in the way the Eurovision Song Contest is being used. She told Blick that:

I deeply regret the fact that the ESC is being abused for political action. The Eurovison Song Contest is supposed to delight and bring together millions of people; it must not be used to incite them against each other.

According to Blick if a solution cannot be found then the EBU will be placing sanctions against Ukraine including a temporary exclusion from the contest. This has yet to be confirmed or mentioned in any previous reporting on the situation and if so could see Ukraine become only the third country ever banned from the contest. In 2009 Georgia was banned from the contest for not replacing their entry which included political references, while in 2005 Lebanon was banned for three years for failing to guarantee the broadcast of the Israeli performance.
