Crimean Tatar politician Rafat Chubarov is facing up to five years in jail for making public calls “for actions aimed at changing Russia’s territorial integrity”.
A criminal case has been opened against Rafat Chubarov, the former head of the Mejilis (assembly) of the Crimean Tatar people, accused of calling to change Russia’s territorial integrity, Crimean Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya told TASS on Friday.
Poklonskaya said Chubarov had been “put on the wanted list” and is facing up to five years in jail for making public calls “for actions aimed at changing Russia’s territorial integrity.”
After Crimea’s reunification with Russia in March 2014, Chubarov departed to Ukraine and was later given a five-year entry ban to Russia for attempts to provoke inter-ethnic conflicts.
