Ukrainian forces have shelled the positions of people’s militias of the Lugansk People’s Republic six times over the past 24 hours, the LPR defense ministry said on Tuesday.
The shelling of the Kalinovka village was carried out three times from the Luganskoye village. The Kiev forces used an infantry combat vehicle and a tripod-mounted man-portable antitank gun, the LuganskInformCenter reported.
“The forces also shelled from 82-mm mortars the units of people’s militias near the Kalinovo village from the side of the Novozvanovka village,” the report said citing the ministry.
The militia positions near two other villages of Sanzharovka and Logvinovo also came under fire from small arms and automatic grenade launchers. “The fire came from the direction of the Troitskoye and Luganskoye villages.”
In mid-January, the Contact Group on settling the crisis in Ukraine’s southeast backed the initiative of Russia’s envoy to the Minsk talks Boris Gryzlov on declaring ceasefire. This is the seventh attempt since autumn 2014 to fully observe the ceasefire in Donbass.
The “silence regime” was introduced from midnight on January 14. However, the Ukrainian forces have repeatedly violated the ceasefire by opening fire from mortars and tank guns that Kiev had to withdraw under the Minsk peace deal signed in February 2015.
