The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has issued warnings to two priests in the Zhitomir region for “pro-Russian propaganda,” the SSU press service said on Monday. The Security Service of Ukraine noted that “relatives of mobilized peasants were ready to lynch the two priests.”
“Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine have issued official warnings to two clergymen who conducted anti-government propaganda among parishioners in support of Russia and against Ukraine,” the SSU noted. It did not specify to which patriarchate the two priests belonged.
Two According to the law enforcers, the senior priest of one of the rural churches “distributed among believers printouts of anti-Ukrainian articles” from the Russian websites as well as video footage of similar content. In addition to that, the priest is suspected of refusing “to hold a prayer service for the health of mobilized warriors.”
Another priest, according to the SSU, “abusing his authority among the congregation, repeatedly defended the necessity of Ukraine’s federalization during the services.”
The Security Service of Ukraine noted that “relatives of mobilized peasants were ready to lynch the two priests.”
As a result, the SSU warned the priests of criminal responsibility “for crimes against the foundations of national security.”
