Workers at the Novovolynska 1 mine located in Ukraine’s Volyn Region have refused to start their morning shift because they have not been paid since April 2015, Ukraine’s Confederation of Free Labor Unions (CFLU)) press service said on Monday.
“Miners get the impression that the state does not need the coal they mine as it lays at storehouses and is not used. Miners contacted people at all levels, but did not get at least part of their delayed salaries,” the head of the local branch of the labor union confederation Anatoly Mukhamedzhanov said.
According to CFLU’s press service, representatives of Novovolynsk’s city council met with Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn on July 24. However, the issue with delayed salaries was not settled.
