Belarus is ready to host the meeting of the Contact Group on settling the situation in Ukraine’s south-east and its four sub-groups on January 27, Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service head Dmitry Mironchik told TASS on Tuesday. “The political sub-group is holding a meeting today. We are preparing for hosting a Trilateral Contact Group and its sub-groups tomorrow,” Mironchik said. The last two-day meeting of the political sub-group took place behind closed doors in Minsk on January 19-20.
Establishing working sub-groups on security, political, economy and humanitarian components of the Minsk accords is envisaged by the Minsk accords signed on 12 February 2015, after negotiations in the so-called “Normandy format” in the Belarusian capital Minsk, bringing together Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko. The Minsk accords also envisage ceasefire, weaponry withdrawal, prisoner exchange, local election in Donbass, and constitutional reform in Ukraine.
