A ground for testing border security means will be set up in Crimea, Russian Vice-Premier Dmitry Rogozin has confirmed after a meeting of the State Border Commission on Friday.
“An instruction will be issued, with consent from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) border service, to use it for testing and using the most advanced technical means of provision of security at the state border; all possible optical means; means of detection of facts of illegal penetration of the state border whose batch production has not yet been launched,” Rogozin said.
He added that Russian defense enterprises and the Russian Fund for Perspective Research would receive similar instructions.
Rogozin warned that Russia should be ready to new possible manifestations of aggression by Ukraine on the Russian state border in Crimea.
Rogozin stated after a State Border Commission’s meeting that Russia would pay increased attention to protecting the Crimean section of the Russian state border.
“If the Kiev authorities have set the goal of ‘making it worse than better’ when the border regime with Russia is in question, we should be ready not only for an aggression which is manifested physically. The aggression may also have another manifestation, including an attempt to create an unfavorable situation in our territory and in the Crimean peninsula,” Rogozin said remembering a recent incident when a subversive group had been detained on the Russian-Ukrainian border on the peninsula.
According to the vice-premier, the State Border Commission has set a global goal to coordinate the activities of all federal and republican bodies of executive power in order to create a higher level of interaction in the provision of security, reliability and non-transparency of the Russian border.
He noted that equipment and technological infrastructure had always been a linchpin of the Russian state border. “That is why special attention will be paid to it especially in view of the fact that people come here for their vacation,” Rogozin stressed adding that President Putin had issued relevant instructions shortly after the Crimean border incident.
Rogozin, the Republic of Crimea and representatives of the State Border Commission on Friday inspected the main outposts on the state border with Ukraine where new infrastructure facilities of the Federal Security Service border service are located. They examined how the checkpoints were equipped and talked to the border guards. At an automobile checkpoint in Armyansk, Rogozin discussed possible threats and methods of reacting to them with the border guards and other services in charge of epidemiological and sanitary control.
