The possibility of the Republika Srpska Day referendum being banned is not ruled out, but it will go ahead anyway, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik said Friday.
“There is a possibility of the referendum being banned or interim measures being introduced, but we will hold the referendum. The referendum is legal and based on our right. There are different ideas – to treat the day as statehood day, independence day. There are several possibilities,” Dodik told a press conference in Banjaluka.
The September 25 referendum does not deal with secession or territorial integrity, he said.
“This is an implementation of a Constitutional Court decision to ask the people what they think about the decision. Serbia and its top officials are neither backing nor disputing the referendum – that is quite sufficient to me,” Dodik said.
******************** WITH SERBIAN OFFICIALS ~
Republika Srpska (RS) is united in the intent to defend the RS Day and activities in this regard will continue, RS President Milorad Dodik said Thursday.
After a meeting with Serbian top officials, he thanked President Tomislav Nikolic and PM Aleksandar Vucic for the opportunity given to Serb representatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina to acquaint themselves with the views of Serbia’s top state officials.
“The position of the Republic of Serbia is that it will not interfere in, back or dispute decisions we in the RS make and that it is up to us to assess all dangers and problems that potential decisions we make in the RS may cause,” he said.
The RS authorities are responsible for all decisions made in RS – it believes that all it is doing is in line with legislation, but that there are also speculations regarding law and what the RS day is, Dodik said.
