Russia is imposing a ban on import of fish products from Latvia and Estonia, spokesperson of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Yulia Trofimova told TASS after the regulator’s technical consultations with representatives of Latvian and Estonian veterinary services on Friday.
“The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance informed veterinary services of Latvia and Estonia on concerns related to revealed systematic violations, and reported that in the nearest future supplies of fish products from Latvia and Estonia to the Russian territory will be suspended,” she said.
Fresh, frozen and refrigerated fish produced in Estonia and Latvia falls within the scope of Russia’s food counter sanctions and is banned to be imported to the country till August 2015 pursuant to the current regulation by the Russian Government. However, tinned and preserved fish was not included in the list of products under sanctions.
As TASS reported earlier Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has been inspecting fish enterprises in Latvia and Estonia since 18 May 2015 due to violations dangerous to life and health revealed in their products.
