The conflict in the Donbass is the only way for Kiev to keep up the West’s interest in Ukraine, prominent Russian lawmaker, head of the State Duma lower house International Affairs Committee Alexey Pushkov said in an interview with the Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily published on Thursday.
“Under these circumstances, the conflict in the east of the country, is, on the one hand, the only way to maintain the West’s interest and, therefore, preserve the financial injections and the possibility of using them with a corrupt purpose. On the other hand, this is an opportunity to keep telling the Ukrainian people that their country is at war. During the war serious rallies, demands and demonstrations are out of place. Therefore, the lukewarm crisis is advantageous to the Kiev regime,” Pushkov said.
He also noted that Ukraine today survived only thanks to the financial assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). If tensions in the Donbass subside, the authorities in Kiev will no longer be able to appeal to the West as “Moscow’s victims”, which can be used against Russia.
“Biden [US Vice President] plays the role of Ukraine’s curator, or, rather, procurator indicating that this a faraway province in the big American empire, to which they are willing to pay some attention, since it can be used against Russia. Outside the scope of this task Ukraine is of no interest to the United States,” Pushkov said. “For the Kiev regime the loss of interest on the part of the West will be tantamount to death.”
