Upper chamber of the Polish Parliament admitted resolution with appeal to Seim to recognize mass murders of Polish population committed by Ukrainian nationalists during the World War II as genocide. It has been reported today by the Polish radio.
Polish Senate adopted a resolution concerning the Volyn tragedy by votes of the ruling party “Law and Justice”.
Polish people killed by Ukrainian nationalists in time of the war were called “victims of genocide” and it is pointed out that the memory of the victims of crimes committed in the 40s by Ukrainian nationalists has not been properly memorialized and massacres were not recognized as genocide yet.
Be reminded that fighters of Ukrainian Insurgent Army held massive campaign to kill ethnic Polish population in Volyn and Podolie.
Persecution peak was on 11th July 1943 when Ukrainian nationalists attacked more than 150 settlements where Polish population lived. Altogether, in regard to different estimations, 50-80 thousand people perished.
