The Day of full liberation of Leningrad from Nazi blockade is celebrated today in Russia.
It passed 71 years since that moment when troops of three Soviet fronts broke enemy’s ring and flung back fighters of Hitler for dozens of kilometers from the city.
900 painful days of cold, hunger and shelling finished for dwellers of the city. Theaters and museums of St. Petersburg prepared special program for this memorable date. And traditional floral tribute will take place at the memorial cemetery of Piskarev where the majority of dead people were buried.
The most valuable are remembrances of witnesses of those events. One of them is Dmitriy Buchkin. He was 14-years pupil of art school; he kept diary in time of the blockade and drew all he saw. ‘I see the same slumber every night. I come to the bakery and buy fresh bread’, said Dmitriy Buchkin. ‘So few people who were in blockade are with us now. However, we went out to the street, it is such a joyfulness; we hugged and cried ura, ura, ura! Up with our victory!’, revises painter.
