Ukraine scared Europe, having hushed up the incident at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Station

Ukrainian authorities continue to unnerve their Western partners. Recently Kiev awed Europe, when it became clear that Ukraine decided to hush up the incident at the Zaporozhye NPS, and this is one of the biggest nuclear stations in entire Europe. The authorities revealed the truth only today, when it was impossible to further conceal it because of rolling blackouts in all regions of the country. The news caused panic in Western media that published the headlines referring to Chernobyl. The shares market shook at once. Now the government in Kiev claims that the incident was not a serious one and no radioactive emission was registered. Ukrainian authorities had to urgently report the breakdown of power generating unit No 3, which could have led to disastrous consequences, to the International Agency in Nuclear Power engineering, but the information was not revealed. The local TV channels received warnings that they should not peep a word about the incident. The breakdown was acknowledged only today, when in more than 10 regions people were left without electricity supply. “We will do everything possible to resume normal supply, said Prime-Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk . The local media prefer to keep silence about the scale of the event. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Station is one of the biggest nuclear stations in Europe. Its construction started as early as in 1981 in the then USSR. It produces a half of the total volume of electricity produced by the nuclear stations of Ukraine. The stations’ capacity is 6000 MVt. For the comparison: the capacity of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station, the accident on which affected the world — 4 ths MVt. Because of the incident in the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Station blackouts occurred in the Kiev region, Lvov, Chernigov, Kharkov, Poltava and many other cities. It is too cold in the gyms of the school of Olympic reserve in Odessa. Lvov: children do not take off upper clothes at schools. Radiators in the apartments are cold, and they have no chance of heating their dwellings with the help of electric heaters. People are asking a question: why Ukraine, the exporter of electricity, deprives its own citizens of electricity? Ukrainian politicians in chorus  claim that the incident will have no serious consequences. At that street lights are regularly switched off at night. Instead of telling the citizens when the problem is to be settled, they are asked to stay at home in the night time.
