Peremptory statements heard in the Mass Media look very strange. This site is one of the speakers of Ukrainian “democracy”. It is said in the report that the court in The Hague opened the “Case of the Russian war crimes in Georgia.” However, if to study this question with at least basis knowledge of English or to use dictionary you can make the conclusion that Ukrainian Mass Media lie. On this page you can find the report of the mission that gathered facts, it is said in it (in particular on page 10, paragraph 2) ‘in the night from 7 to 8 August 2008, city Tskhinvali was subjected to longstanding shelling by Georgian artillery.
Further, it is pointed out that only after this, Russian troops were involved.
Such manipulations from the side of Ukrainian Mass Media are not rare.
Nevertheless, the main thing is not this, but the fact that the conflict ended 8 years ago, and International bodies responded to requests and started investigating.
As stated by the ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, the decision to apply to the Pre-Trial Chamber was made under the complementarity principle. “The ICC cannot proceed if national authorities are already undertaking (or have undertaken) genuine domestic proceedings into the same cases.
Until recently, the competent national authorities of both Georgia and Russia were engaged in conducting investigations against those who appeared to be most responsible for some of the identified crimes. These investigative measures, despite some attendant challenges and delays, appeared to be progressing. However, in March of last year, relevant national proceedings in Georgia were indefinitely suspended”. At the same time the prosecutor announced that ‘she keeps on monitoring the appropriate investigations in Russia that take place now’.
I think that the same investigation would be in attitude crimes committed by Ukrainian authorities against citizens of Donbass.
There is one more interesting moment, in particular, the reaction of Kiev authorities if ICC decides to carry out the investigation in against Mikhail Saakashvili who has now significant post.
They will probably talk about the Kremlin agencies. And now they are rejoicing that something was subjected to the investigation and Russia was involved and it means that it is guilty.
