The visit of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights to the Donetsk People’s Republic is a good sign, but do not expect any changes, the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Andrey Purgin said.
“The fact is that the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights visited us after a year of war is a good sign. However, I wouldn’t expect any breakthrough, as he hasn’t been here before. During the year, Donbass people die, crimes against civilians are committed in the territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. But no one on the other side investigates it. Inactivity of the European human rights organizations is outspoken, unmasked, double standards,” – Andrey Purgin said.
On June 30, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks arrived in the Donetsk People’s Republic to assess the humanitarian situations in region. He was accompanied by the employees of the International Secretariat of the Council of Europe Alyona Petsun (Ukraine) and Furkat Tishayev (Russia).
