The journalist himself stated this in his interview to newspaper Lidove noviny from Prague.
“I filmed the exhumation of four bodies – two civilians and two rebels. According to local witnesses, the dead people were not members of the militia; they were ordinary dwellers of village Novosvetlovka. They had been murdered by Ukrainian volunteers from Aidar battalion “, – he said, having remarked that the event was filmed by him as early as on September 2 of the last year.
Babitskiy said that he did not comment of the footage in any way, he only made a video and sent it to the Moldavian bureau of Radio Svoboda.
“The video was posted on the site. The nationalists from the Ukrainian bureau had a bout of hysterics at once. Great scandal followed. At that, I posted only the video, in which only the scene I had watched with my own eyes was. It was not accompanied by any commentary”, – remarked the correspondent.
Andrey Babitskiy had been working for Radio Svoboda for 25 years. In the end of 1990s – beginning of 2000s he was a war correspondent in the Northern Caucasus. Covering the events in Chechnya, he had been one of the most ardent critics of Russian authorities in Western media.
In April of the last year the journalist had been dismissed from work for one month for the support of Russia’s stand in the Crimea issue.
