The Donbass Republics will not “sit at the same table” with those who issued orders to fire at peaceful towns and civilians, Lugansk People’s Republic envoy to Minsk negotiations Vladislav Deinego said at a meeting with Lugansk youths on Tuesday.
“Those who shoot, give orders to open fire, are our ideological enemies. We won’t live in the same country with those who shoot at us,” Deinego said. “Or they should be penalized, be outcasts with certain restrictions of their rights as were Nazi criminals after the Nuremberg trial.”
“We cannot possibly sit at the same table with those who opened fire on us,” Deinego said.
The envoy went to say that rank-and-file Ukrainian army personnel were very much hostages of circumstances and Ukrainian authorities as were Donbass civilians.
“We should understand that frontline fighters either have no moral principles, fighting for money, or they might fear for the well-being of their relatives. If the Ukrainian army calls up recruits and a villager joins a unit, his family becomes a hostage,” he said.
“That is why they cannot change sides being aware of what consequences their families might face, and that confronting it openly is not possible. We should understand it. Perhaps, some of them deserve our compassion and forgiveness,” Deinego said.
“Those we cannot put up with are few, mostly likely a fraction of a percent, but the bulk of Ukrainians are ordinary people in a complicated situation. We have to come to terms with them and maybe we can find common ground. Perhaps, we could overthrow that junta together with them and build a new country,” the Republic’s envoy said.
