Zakharchenko on economic reconstruction in the DPR

The subject of reconstruction of the economy was dealt with by Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, in his interview to the Central Media Holding.

According the Head of the Republic, the DPR has to renew the ties with the Russian Federation – that will result in more jobs and social protection of the population. “Agriculture is an equally important issue. We must provide ourselves with vitally important food products. All resources available are aimed at the support and development of this branch. We should increase coal production to the maximum and hold it at the highest level, – Zakharchenko said. – Industry is one more very important branch of our economy. Donetsk has always been glorious not only because of its rose beds and mines, but also for its machine-building plants. At present 80 per cent of these enterprises are preserved and about 60 are ready for functioning. In the nearest future we will be able to resume their operation, in spite of the fact that machine-building has been exterminated in the course of 20 years in our region. Attraction of foreign investors is also in our plans”, – Voiced Zakharchenko his vision of the situation. “The people’s desire to work, to create and to restore is great. As utility workers of Donetsk said, “We will clean the city up out of principle, even while we are subjected to shelling, as we want to see our city beautiful and clean”. The convictions of our citizens altered: they value the concepts of “our city”, “our country”, “our mine”. We have also preserved the scientific potential, and our students will make us even stronger. In future the scientists of the Donetsk People’s Republic will receive the Nobel Prizes”, – the Head of the DPR emphasized. “In order for the Republic and the people to survive, we should take the entire branches under state control, so that they could provide us with the essentials – first of all power production and gas transport sustem are vitally important”, – Zakharchenko summed up.
