First results of Ukraine’s local elections on Sunday demonstrate that the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) party led by Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko is failing these elections.
The party has managed to surpass the ten-percent barrier only in the Rovno region, where it is scoring 12.1% of the vote.
According to expert forecasts, Batkivshchina was expected to win about ten percent of votes at the elections to the Kiev city council (legislature). But judging by the preliminary results, the party is failing to live up to the expectation, with only 9.2%
In Ternopol and Kharkov, Timoshenko’s party is winning 5.5 and 3.3%, respectively.
Notably, Yulia Timoshenko has managed to score mere 4.3% of the vote in her native city, Dnepropetrovsk.
