Protests in Washington against foreign policy in high election campaign

“It is time to throw the “fat cats” from both Wall Street and K Street out. It is high time to let our government know what the American people really think about them and their destructive policies.”

Do you recall how president Obama promised to bring our men and women back from Afghanistan by the end of 2014? It seems to have happened ages ago. But in the end, he didn’t keep his word.

“While America’s combat mission in Afghanistan may be over, our commitment to Afghanistan and its people endures,” Obama said, trying to soften the blow. “As Commander-in-Chief, I will not allow Afghanistan to be used as safe haven for terrorists to attack our nation again.”

And that wasn’t the only example either. Obama is responsible for launching military operations in seven countries. He ended a war in Iraq only to redeploy thousands of American soldiers there soon after Islamic State routed the U.S.-trained Iraqi army in Mosul. Some weeks later, he ordered the U.S. forces to start bombing Islamic State strongholds in Syria. And so the war goes and it seems like there’s no stopping it.

Perhaps we shouldn’t feel too surprised when dozens upon dozens of protesters set up a front near the White House on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Their goal is to speak out against U.S. military bravado, anti-Russian hysteria, which does remind me of McCarthyism, to be honest, and last, but not least, to stand firmly against absurd domestic policies which are a direct cause for the ever-growing spread of poverty, homelessness and economic strife in our homeland.

People held banners saying allegorical “No!” to what will become undoubtedly known as the second Cold War with Moscow. Strong criticism received a controversy-sparking U.S. prison of Guantanamo Bay. Some groups even called for putting president Barack Obama on a trial at The Hague Tribunal and were actively denouncing political corruption which took hold of the United States government.

The leader of the protesters, talk radio host and community activist Jamila Bey, publically challenged the president to try to resolve our nation’s most immediate domestic issues instead of spending billions of dollars on the escalation of war and the armed forces upkeep.

“This is the richest country on the face of the planet”, said Bey, “and yet there are millions of poor in America.”

“It is time to throw the “fat cats” from both Wall Street and K Street out. It is high time to let our government know what the American people really think about them and their destructive policies. Stop searching out corruption abroad – deal with it at home first!”

The words of her passionate speech echoed in the sentiments of protesters, who came there tired of the Washington’s indolence and single-mindedness and I truly hope that they will resonate with you as well. This is a call for peace and I believe that it’s what every American should strive for.
